Open My World. When the program opens, you will be presented with a blank project page. Begin the project by adding a layer. Click on the icon marked with the arrow.

The gray area on the left is called the Layer List. The Layer List is where all of your layers will be found. As you add layers, they are added to the top, just like a layer cake. You can change the order by selecting a layer and moving it to a new position on the list.
The blue area on the right is called the Map. The vector and raster images from your layers are displayed in this area. The Map area has its own tools on the tool bar. The open hand allows you to move the image around, the diagonal magnifying glasses with the + or – signs are the zoom in and zoom out tools. You can select either tool and click on the map to change the scale or click and drag from upper left to lower right to be more selective and the zoom directly to the area of your interest.
Select ArcIMS Server from the Add Data From window on the left hand side of the window. For West Virginia users, you may access GIS data from the http://mapwv.gov ArcIMS server by typing the URL into the window that says Server URL and then clicking Connect.

When you are connected the data services available from the server will be displayed in the larger window.

For this activity, you will need to select the WV_SAMB_Orthophotos_2003_UTM83. After clicking the folder a submenu will appear with the same name. Select the subfolder, then click Add Layer to add this data to your project as a new layer.

This is the image that you will see appear in the map window in My World. In order to make the aerial photographs for useful, you will need to zoom in. The zoom tool is the diagonal magnifying glass with the plus or minus sign. Zooming is accomplished by selecting the appropriate tool and either clicking a spot on the image or left clicking and dragging from the upper left to the lower right corner of the area you want enlarged.

This is the area that was enlarged. You can zoom-in in one step or do it in a series of steps. Below are the map and layer windows. Note that the bottom of the window will display the coordinates for the cursor location and the scale being used.
