- Marshall University have identified their educator, Mr. Ron King, to facilitate the Environmental Inquiry course in the future, and he will attend a 5 day GLOBE workshop in July 2007.
- HSTA teachers have been identified to broaden participating student’s exposure to GLOBE and environmentally relevant geoscience instruction.
Difficulties
- The grant transfer request necessitated by the PI transfer to another institution made it unrealistic to continue collaborative relationships with the WVU-Tech Upward Bound already began in year 1.
- IDGE commitment to support equipment purchase for HSTA teachers has been put on hold until verification was received that the program would be successfully transferred and not terminated. This made it difficult to begin training implementation; so project investigators decided to move forward on a GLOBE/HSTA partnership that could be facilitated and supported without IDGE. Project investigators believe that this collaboration strengthens both HSTA and GLOBE in West Virginia.
Best Ideas
Collaborating with other successful student/teacher science programs within your state and local area, such as HSTA, helps to identify those successful teachers who are typically more active and willing to integrate innovative instructional methodologies and incorporate GLOBE both in their classroom and in their informal science clubs.
Deviations and Future Plans
- Because of the grant transfer request, Marshall University Upward Bound program will provide the UB educators who will be trained to deliver the Environmental Inquiry course in the future.
- Local secondary educators will be targeted through the HSTA program in WV to find those secondary teachers who are actively engaged through their formal and informal classrooms.
