What Do I Need to Do to Participate?
To participate, applicants agree to complete all requirements of
the project courses. Each course is three credits, and both are required. The sequence can be taken for professional
development or graduate level continuing education credit. The application is available here. Applications are currently be accepted until February 28th, 2009.
Specific course requirements
include:
1. Willingness to learn about watershed science, including the impact of land use on stream and river conditions;
2. Willingness to develop and implement strategies
and utilize resources that support student understanding of watershed dynamics,
geospatial science and technology, and spatial learning skills;
3. Developing computer literacy in CMAP and related computer and field-based technologies;
4. Developing maps and other geospatial learning and research products focusing on state and local watersheds;
5. Developing computer literacy in My
World GIS and associated equipment / software / websites;
6. Developing, field-testing, and revising a West
Virginia Watershed Dynamics 'Geospatial Unit' of at least two (2) weeks
duration that includes field-study on a
local stream and watershed;
7. Maintaining an electronic reflective
journal for the duration of the project that includes responses to various questions;
8. Being an active on-line participant
of the project 'learning community', which includes use of communication tools
(e.g., threaded discussions, WIMBA live classroom, reviewing the work of project colleagues);
9. Completing surveys and reports;
10. With teacher-participant
colleagues, presenting a session on West Virginia Watershed Dynamics
units that result from your efforts at 2010 WVSTA conference.
